Residential trash is collected on Mondays and Thursdays north of Route 1 (Superhighway) and Tuesdays and Fridays south of Route 1 (Superhighway) except for New Years Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Residents should place trash at the curb after 6:00 p.m. the night preceding collection; remove empty cans by 10:00 a.m. the day following collection. Trash must be placed in a suitable container, which has a tight-fitting cover and handles, is watertight, and is animal proof. Containers shall be no larger than thirty-five (35) gallons in capacity and weigh less than fifty (50) pounds when full. All boxes and carpets must be bundled in less than four (4) foot lengths. A maximum of ten (10) containers, bags, or bundles of trash will be collected each collection day.
Refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, and any other appliances containing freon are collected by appointment only. Doors must be removed. To schedule a pickup, call Waste Management at 215-788-5555. All other bulk items, such as furniture and appliances, are collected on the 2nd collection day of each week by a separate collection crew. Bulk items are limited to one item per week.
Latex (water-based) paint may be placed in the trash for regular collection. Please allow the unused paint to harden to prevent it from spilling onto the street during collection.
The hauler is not responsible for the removal of building materials in excess of one (1) container per week, automobiles, automobile parts, tree stumps, demolition materials, concrete, dirt, tires, and household hazardous waste. Each homeowner is responsible for the proper disposal of these items.
When the holidays noted above fall on a Monday, trash will be collected the next day (Tuesday). When any of the holidays noted above fall on a collection day other than Monday, trash will be collected on the next scheduled collection day, with a 20-container limit. When a holiday falls on a recycling day, recyclables will be collected the next day.
Middletown Township has established a mandatory recycling program for the curbside collection of newspaper and magazines (including phone books and catalogs), glass bottles and jars (all colors), food and beverage cans (aluminum, tin, and bimetal), and plastic bottles and jars coded "1" or "2" in the recycling logo located on the bottom of the container.
All bottles and cans are to be mixed together in one container; newspapers and magazines are to be bundled separately in brown paper bags (no plastic bags) or tied with twine and placed next to the recycling container at the curb. Containers shall be no larger than thirty-five (35) gallons in capacity and must weigh less than fifty (50) pounds when full. All containers must be labeled for recycling. Recycling labels are available free of charge at the Municipal Center. There is no limit on the amount of recyclables collected.
Residents can now recycle cardboard through the curbside recycling program. Both corrugated and pressed cardboard (cereal boxes, soda cases, etc.) are included. Residents should place the cardboard in a brown paper bag just as you would newspaper. Newspaper and cardboard can also be placed together in the same bag. Additionally, boxes can be broken down and bundled into a size comparable to a shopping bag in preparation for pick-up. The cardboard is to be placed curbside along with other recyclables on your regular recyclable collection day.
Please place recyclables apart from the trash at the curb. Do not place the recyclables in the street. Collections may occur as early as 6:00 a.m., so please place recyclables at the curb after 6:00 p.m. on the night preceding collection.
Recyclable materials are collected on Mondays for those residents north of Route 1 (Superhighway) and Tuesdays for those residents south of Route 1 (Superhighway).
Middletown is proud to partner with Waste Management to increase recycling and help preserve the environment.
Middletown has established a yard waste curbside collection program. Effective Janaury 2010, yard waste will be collected every Wednesday, throughout the Township, year-round. Yard waste will not be accepted for collection along with regular trash pick-up.
Yard waste includes clippings, leaves, plants, twigs, and tree branches. This material will be collected and processed at a composting facility, thereby reducing the amount of solid waste disposed of at a landfill or incinerator. Permissible items to be picked up include clippings, leaves, plants, twigs and tree branches. The trash hauler will not pick up yard waste that is placed in plastic bags or placed at the curb on regular trash days.
Residents are to place their yard waste in either 30-gallon biodegradable paper bags or in regular trash containers. Residents may not use cardboard boxes, plastic bags, or biodegradable plastic bags, as these will not be accepted at the composting facility. Tree branches are to be bundled into 4-foot lengths and placed next to the yard waste at the curb. Do not rake leaves into the street. Collection may occur as early as 6:00 a.m., so residents are advised to place their yard waste at the curb on Tuesday evening after 6:00 p.m. There is no limit to the amount of yard waste collected each Wednesday.
Many household products contain chemicals that when discarded contribute to the contamination of our environment by polluting our soil, air and water. A Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program provides the opportunity to reduce the amount of hazardous household chemical waste that is flushed down toilet and kitchen drains, "disposed" of in the backyard, dumped into storm drains or simply disposed of in the municipal waste stream. These typical means of disposal are both hazardous to public health and unnecessary. Yet, it continues because individuals are frequently unaware that many useful products contain hazardous chemicals. It is the consumer's responsibility to use and dispose of household products safely. Certain household waste should be brought to community household hazardous waste collections events for proper disposal. Click the links below for the location, dates and times for the five collection events scheduled for Bucks County and for a map of other locations throughout Southeast Pennsylvania.
The flyer outlines what types of hazardous waste can be brought to the collection points and what items will not be accepted. All collections are held on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, rain or shine. This program is not for business, industry or institutions. Additional information regarding this program can be found by visting the Recycling Page at www.buckscounty.org.

Items that fall under the category of hazardous waste are not to be put out for curbside pick-up. In addition to being pollutants that can infiltrate and contaminate our water resources, they can mix together in an enclosed area such as a trash truck or dumpster, and become a deadly chemical or fire hazard. Hazardous waste items need special attention and are to be disposed of at special drop-off locations.
Per Ordinance 90-11, all residents who reside in apartments and all owners of commercial and institutional establishments are required to recycle in accordance with the following regulations.
Apartments
Apartment owners are responsible for establishing, implementing and managing a program for the collection and transportation of recyclable materials generated at their properties. Owners must inform all persons residing at the property of the program, including the dates, time, and location of collection, the items to be recycled, and the method of collection. Such information must be provided by the owner to all tenants not less than once a year and to all new tenants at the time of occupancy.
The materials to be recycled at apartments include newsprint, corrugated paper, glass bottles and jars (all colors), food and beverage cans (aluminum, steel, and bimetal), and plastic bottles and jars coded 1 or 2 inside the recycling logo located on the bottom of the container.
Commercial and Institutional Establishments
All owners of commercial and institutional establishments must also provide a system to separate recyclable materials from solid waste. The materials to be recycled by these establishments include high-grade office paper, corrugated paper, and aluminum. Additional materials, such as newsprint, glass containers (all colors), steel and bimetal cans, and plastic bottles and jars coded 1 or 2, may also be recycled.
Leaf Waste
All owners of commercial and institutional establishments and apartments are required to separate leaf waste from solid waste, as leaf waste may no longer be collected with the trash and taken to a landfill.
