Miscellaneous Police Department Programs

Adopt-A-District Program

Each of the four patrol squads adopts various sectors within the Township and takes ownership of. They are responsible for handling problems that occur within their adopted districts. They also provide community-policing programs within their areas.

Bicycle Rodeo Program

This program teaches bicycle safety by allowing the juveniles to ride their bicycles around a designed course. Upon successful completion of the program, the participants are awarded a certificate.

Narcotics, Alcohol, Inhalant & Violence Education (N.A.I.V.E.)

Formed in 2002, NAIVE is a volunteer committee of concerned citizens, breaved relatives, educators, health professionals and members of law enforcement throughout Bucks County. The goal of NAIVE is to educate the community in hopes of reducing the amount of deaths associated with drug and alcohol use. The NAIVE presentation is made for parents, adolescents, families and schools. Viewers learn to recognize different types of drugs and paraphernalia along with trends in their production and use. The lethal risks involved and the graphic reality of drug and alcohol use/abuse are also presented.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)

This prevention program is aimed is to equip our youth with the skills needed to resist peer pressure to experiment and use harmful drugs. It also teaches self-esteem and coping strategies. Offered to students in public and parochial elementary schools within the Neshaminy School District boundries. Paid for by federal and state grants.

Hug-A-Bear Program

The Middletown Township Police Department, in conjunction with civic groups, including the Telephone Pioneers of America, has developed a program whereby police officers investigating incidents that involve children under emotional and stressful conditions, will issue a teddy bear in an effort to ease the tension and provide a reassuring object on which the child can focus on.

Cop Trading Card Program

Police officers have their pictures and biographies put on trading cards, which are then collected by local youth. Contests are held to see who can collect the entire set of cards. Local sponsors fund the entire program.

Safer Neighborhoods Are Possible (S.N.A.P.)

Designed to encourage residents to participate in block watching and other crime prevention programs in their neighborhood. Interested parties are provided with a packet of information on how to start a S.N.A.P. group in their area, and on what direct services the Township offers to help in organizing such a group.

M.A.T.C.H. (Middletown Alcohol Tobacco Community Healthmate)

This two-fold educational and enforcement program designed to ensure that local merchants are complying with the laws regarding the sales of tobacco products to minors. The first step educates merchants about the laws and the consequences of violating them.Then, local juveniles are enlisted to attempt to make purchases to see if the shopowners are complying with the laws. Fully funded by state grants.

Citizen Police Academy

Ten-week program designed for citizens to learn more about their local law enforcement agency by providing a source of education in law enforcement issues. Taught by Middletown Township police officers and relevant guest speakers. Open to Middletown Township residents and merchants over the age of eighteen.

Emergency Business Contact Program

Designed specifically for businesses within the community. Each business fills out a form identifying the owner and three emergency contact employees. This information is placed in the Police Department database for emergency purposes.

Home and Business Surveys

Upon a request from a home or business owner, an officer will come out and perform a security survey of the residence or business and make suggestions for improving security.

Crime Prevention Talks

Officers are available to talk about crime prevention topics including personal security, robbery prevention, etc.

Bicycle Patrol

There are two officers assigned to bicycle patrol. Their duties include patrolling high-density residential and business areas. The goal of the program is to reduce crime in these areas and allow the community to have more contacts with officers in positive situations.

McGruff Trucks

The Department, in conjunction with Lower Bucks Cablevision, has a program to assist children who become lost or need police assistance. The Cablevision employees have been trained to deal with the children in need and their trucks are affixed with McGruff stickers.

McGruff Costume

McGruff the Crime Dog will be making appearances at local events, including D.A.R.E. graduations, Police Memorial Week at the Oxford Valley Mall, as well as other community policing events. McGruff is the nationally recognized representative of the National Crime Prevention Council.

McGruff Puppet

A McGruff puppet can be taken into local elementary schools to teach children about crime prevention and other pertinent topics. An officer will manipulate the puppet while a grade specific (K-6) audiotape is played in the background.

Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.)

Our D.A.R.E. officer is trained to teach children skills to avoid becoming members of gangs, using violence as a means of resolving conflict, and the reasons not to vandalize property and commit crimes.

McGruff Telephone Calling Cards

Parents can purchase prepaid telephone calling cards for their children to use in an emergency. The cards can only be used to call previously designated emergency contacts and they contain emergency information about the child.

Operation Identification

Neighborhood watch groups who successfully organize their blocks will be loaned an engraver from the Police Department to mark personal property with their Pennsylvania Operator's license number to make the property less desirable to thieves and assist in its retrieval.

Operation Lifesaver

The Police Department, in conjunction with Conrail, will educate children about the dangers of playing on or around railroad tracks. Also educates adults about the dangers of passing crossing gates.

Townships Against Graffiti (T.A.G.)

The Township participates in a regional program to educate teachers in how to recognize and catalog "tags" and "taggers". Provides ordinances to prevent children from purchasing spray paint and encourages property owners to remove graffiti as soon as possible.

Catch A Ride: Theft Reduction, Arrest And Prosecution (C.A.R. T.R.A.P.)

Middletown Township and three surrounding townships will participate in a program to reduce vehicle thefts by providing interested residents with stickers that they can apply to their vehicles which gives police officers permission to stop the vehicle at night without probable cause.

Elderly Resident Check

Officers periodically check in on elderly residents who are not able to get out of their homes.
